Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation
Forty-one Illinois children received free dental exams on Saturday in Elgin.
The event held at Elgin Community College’s Dental Assisting Clinic was part of Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation’s Dentist By 1 program, which educates parents and caregivers about good oral health habits and the benefits of starting dental visits early.
About 62% of children attending this year’s event had never been to a dentist before, and 35% showed signs of tooth decay.

Children’s Oral Health
Parents of children in elementary, middle and high school are encouraged to schedule a dental appointment this summer before the 2019-2020 school year begins.
Illinois children going into kindergarten, second, sixth and ninth grades are required to get a dental exam. A new state law expanded the requirement to incoming freshmen for the upcoming school year. Dental checkups are now required for approximately 150,000 incoming Illinois ninth graders.
