Delta Dental of Illinois integrates DentaQual® dentist quality rating system

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (April 10, 2022) – Choosing a dentist is a big decision. It can help to know the facts from reputable sources. Therefore, Delta Dental of Illinois is partnering with P&R Dental Strategies — the leading supplier of data-driven business solutions for dental payers — to integrate P&R’s DentaQual dentist quality rating system into its online dentist directory listing.

The DentaQual ratings system is a direct result of the growing market interest for objective, data-driven ratings for dentists. Rather than depending on personal testimonials and opinions for feedback, DentaQual ratings use data from DentaBase®, P&R Dental Strategies’ database of over 4 billion anonymized and aggregated dental procedures contained in claims data from numerous commercial insurance payors that is continuously updated.

DentaQual compares each dentist’s score to the average scores of their peers in the same specialty and geography to generate an overall quality rating that’s updated monthly. This rating system is similar to those used by accreditation agencies, regulatory agencies and government programs to translate the index scale ranges to star-grade levels. Dentists will receive a score between one to five stars:

Excellent = 5 stars

Above Average = 4.5 stars

Good/Average = 4 stars

Fair = 3.5 stars

Poor = 3 stars
