Free Dentist by 1 Event
Posted on July 11, 2013 in In the Community
Children in Illinois don’t see their family dentist on average until they are 3½ years old. A staggering 97% of parents were unaware that it’s recommended that a child should go to the dentist by age 1 or within six months after the first tooth comes in according to a 2012 American Academy of Pediatric Dentist survey.
Last year, Delta Dental of Illinois and its Foundation launched the Dentist By 1 campaign statewide to educate parents and caregivers about the benefits of taking their children to the dentist by age 1 and to encourage them to schedule a visit.
In support of this program, The Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation in collaboration with Elgin Community College and Greater Elgin Family Care Center is providing a FREE, hands-on two day education session and community service event Thursday, August 8 and Friday, August 9. Day 1 will be an educational seminar for dentists on oral health evaluation of a young child. Day 2 will be a hands-on event open to children 5 years or younger. Dentists will be able to provide preventative and diagnostic care for children who stop by on a first come, first served basis.
