Event Recap – Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation

Posted on September 26, 2013 in In the Community

The Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation, – in collaboration with Elgin Community College and Greater Elgin Family Care Center – generously sponsored by Henry Schein, held a free, hands-on, two-day education session and community service event on Thursday, August 8 and Friday, August 9.

On August 8, Glen Ellyn pediatric dentist Dr. Lance Lambert guided 11 dental teams through the steps of an infant oral evaluation while sharing his knowledge and years of experience in confidently working with young children.

On August 9, dental teams applied their knowledge gained the day prior by providing care to young children (age 5 and younger). Patients were guided by Dr. Lance Lambert and Dr. Victor R. Gonzalez, given an oral health kit, and evaluation notes, treatment recommendations and referral sources.

“What we were trying to do is not only educate the patient themselves on proper hygiene and what to do, but particularly to educate the parent,” said Frank Maggio, an Elgin periodontist and chairman of the Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation board.

The two day session provided a great opportunity for dentists and their dental team/staff to gain the tools necessary to feel more comfortable adding young patients to their patient base, while providing an opportunity to treat underprivileged children in the community.
