Delta Dental of Illinois Elects Two New Board Members

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - February 15, 2012 -- Delta Dental of Illinois Board of Directors elected two new officers. Dennis Manning, DDS, former board member from 2001 to 2006, will serve a one-year term for an open board position, and David Miller, DDS will serve a three-year term.

Dr. Manning practices general dentistry in Libertyville, Ill. and formerly served on the Delta Dental of Illinois Board of Directors from 2001 to 2006. He recently completed a four-year term as the Eighth District Trustee of the American Dental Association (ADA) and has served as a member of the Executive Council of the Illinois State Dental Society. As Chair of the Allied Dental Personnel Committee, he was instrumental in developing six community college dental hygiene programs within the State of Illinois. Dr. Manning is a graduate of the Loyola University School of Dentistry in Chicago.

Dr. Miller is an accomplished Illinois legislator and practicing dentist. Dr. Miller served five terms in the Illinois House of Representatives as a State Representative for the 29th District, and has practiced dentistry for more than 21 years. During his tenure as a State Representative, Dr. Miller was selected as Assistant Majority Leader and held leadership positions on many key committees, including Appropriations Committee for Higher Education, Pension Fund Management Procurement, and Transportation and Motor Vehicles. Dr. Miller’s legislative focus was improving the education, healthcare and economic quality of life for Illinoisans, and his legislative accomplishments include addressing educational funding inequalities, payday loan reform, economic development, diversifying procurement of professional services and fund management services in government. In 2009, Dr. Miller was the Democratic nominee for State Comptroller, winning nearly 1.5 million votes in the general election.

Dr. Miller has practiced dentistry in Dolton, Illinois since 1988. Dr. Miller is the co-founder of the Dental Health Education Group of Greater Chicago, which provides on-site dental screenings, cleaning and fluoride treatments to children. He continues to work with public and private agencies to promote and provide access to oral health care. Dr. Miller has received numerous honors including the Chicago Dental Society Cushing Award and the Illinois State Dental Society William J. Greek Memorial Leadership Award. He has many civic and professional affiliations. Dr. Miller earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and his Doctoral of Dental Surgery from the University of Illinois.
