Delta Dental is by far the largest dental benefits carrier in the country. Delta Dental member companies provide insured coverage and/or self-funded plan administrative services for nearly one-third of all Americans with dental insurance in all 50 states.
Delta Dental of Illinois is one of 39 independently operated member companies of the Delta Dental Plans Association. Illinois Dental Service (IDS) was granted a charter as a not-for-profit corporation in 1967. Under this Act, IDS was authorized to establish dental care plans for residents of Illinois, operating under the supervision of the Illinois Department of Insurance. The name Illinois Dental Service was changed to Delta Dental Plan of Illinois in 1984 and to Delta Dental of Illinois in 2005.
Delta Dental of Illinois provides fully-insured and administrative services only dental benefit programs to over 2 million enrollees in over 5,900 groups representing all business sectors such as hospitals, municipalities, school districts and universities, government entities, commercial businesses, labor groups and national accounts.
Delta Dental of Illinois also offers individual dental plans for Illinois residents who do not have access to a group dental plan.

In 2011, we introduced individual coverage, providing Illinois individuals, couples and families the same comprehensive dental benefit plans that Illinois groups have enjoyed for over 50 years.

Our most recent client survey revealed 99% satisfaction with the account management team. Delta Dental of Illinois offers seamless, single-site administration from its Naperville headquarters. All administrative and Client services including: claims processing, customer service, network management, financial reporting, eligibility maintenance, claim review, underwriting, billing, and account management are provided from our Naperville location.
To help manage our accounts as effectively as possible, DDIL offers superior standard management reports and ad hoc reports, as well as comprehensive web-based applications for enrollees and group administrators (including eligibility, billing and ad-hoc reporting) at no additional charge.
Delta Dental of Illinois offers its unique Delta Dental PPO plus Premier, the exclusive combination of Delta Dental PPO and Delta Dental Premier® networks. With nearly 80 percent of dentists in Illinois and the nation participating, Delta Dental Premier works with Delta Dental PPO to increase in-network usage to an average of 84 percent, compared to an average of 25 to 40 percent with other dental carriers’ PPO-only programs.
Delta Dental PPO and Delta Dental Premier network dentists accept the lesser of their submitted fee or Delta Dental’s maximum allowed fee as payment-in-full. In other words, they cannot “balance bill” enrollees for any amounts in excess of our maximum allowed fee. As a result, 65-85% of our clients’ enrollees are typically protected from balance billing.
We also offer DeltaCare® – a dental HMO with nearly 800 office locations in Illinois.
